For more than a century, the Canadian Fraternal Association (CFA) has been promoting the welfare of fraternal benefit societies in Canada. As the voice of fraternal organizations with approximately 400,000 Canadian members, the CFA has kept fraternal interests and concerns before legislators and regulators at all levels of government. The Orange Benefit Fund is a proud supporter and advocate of the CFA and its endeavours.
This requires a continuing effort, as fraternal societies are unique. They are organizations operated for the benefit of their members and the communities they serve. Services offered include educational programs, volunteer opportunities and social activities, as well as financial products and services such as insurance, savings and investment vehicles.
The unique fraternal structure enables member societies to make "value added" contributions to their members and their beneficiaries as well as to the communities in which they operate.
Protecting Fraternal Interests
Central to the CFA mandate is ensuring that governments at all levels understand and appreciate the role of fraternal benefit societies. The CFA works to assist governments in implementing legislation that is appropriate and effective for fraternal benefit societies and all Canadians.
Speaking collectively through their Association, Canada's fraternals have an influential voice that would not be available to a single society.
The CFA is also a central gathering point and distribution vehicle for statistics and information about fraternal societies and their caring activities throughout Canada. In addition, it provides a forum for presenting new and vital information that may affect the societies.
Fraternal - means a social organization or a group of persons with common purposes and/or interests
Benevolent - means characterized by good will, desire to help others, established for good work and charitable.
CFA associations are not-for-profit. Any profits made are given back to the client or member in dividends and/or by supporting many community charities.
